Organizing the craft closet

I’m now in the middle of organizing my crafting closet, as we’ve been able to unpack the boxes that were taking up the space!

It feels nice looking through all my supplies. Since they’ve been living in a box for awhile, I’ve forgotten all the things I can do. Not anymore though, it’ll all be visible for me to peruse!

I finally finished it late Monday. Here’s a picture!

As you can see, a lot of stamping stuff and paper too. I ingeniously figured a way to store the bits of ribbon – they’re in a bag on a hanger! Knitting and sewing things are not visible, they’re in the cardboard box for the time being.

Older Cards

As per my thoughts on Friday, I was crafty last night/this morning! I’ve made up a set of 3 card-like items.  But I can’t post the pictures until tomorrow as I need to give them to someone!

In the meantime, here are some pictures of cards I made about a month ago with my mum. There’s one more from this set, but its colors are not coming out well in pictures today so I’ll try tomorrow.

This little red card is about 2 inches big. The red heart is embossed with clear powder.

This blue card is 4.5 inches by 3.25 inches. I really like the design on the inside.

And I can’t believe I never made a blog post about my Petit Prince stamp, completed about a month ago. I’m so proud of the stamp!

Here’s the stamp on the card. I tried to match the colors exactly to the illustration.

And the card’s inside. The rose is from a Stampin Up set.

I was so happy with this card, I’m not sure if I’ll ever give it away. In fact I numbered the back of it! It just feels more like art to me.

Super Weekend!

This weekend is going to be super amazing for many reasons.

1. It’s the Labour Day long weekend, and IBM gives us a floater holiday on the Tuesday, so it’s a four day weekend! Sweet!

2. Look at this weather we’re going to have:

Copy-paste weather, and its awesome to boot! Double sweet!

3. Tuesday is when school starts……. but not for me! This means Tom will be at school and I will be free to do whatever I want. Triple sweet!

I’m feeling it, I really am. This weekend is going to be super amazing. I’m feeling the crafty spirit come back!

Something I want to try to make, not this weekend as I’m still trying to not spend lots of money, is my own ironing board. That idea just popped into my head, and a quick google search shows that a few other people have done so. All you need is heat resistant padding, a bit of fabric, and a staple gun. I was fretting a bit trying to think of where I would store a full sized ironing board, so if I make my own I can use a small wood board and forgo the metal legs, and it’ll be able to hide with my other crafty things! Perfect!

Walking around town

Sadly the crafting spirit hasn’t been with me this past week. So I’ve been trying to fill the void with, well, anything that fits!

Yesterday it was walking around my “new” neighborhood with my pretty old GPS unit. In fact it’s so old that my computer doesn’t have the proper port for connecting with it! As such it only has a really basic map of my area, which means only major roads that have a number associated with em. However it keeps track of where you go with a neat little line, so I was OK to wander around aimlessly and wasn’t afraid of getting totally lost.

In my adventures I discovered a school with a really cool play area and saw some very interesting architecture. All in all pretty boring, but what else can you expect from a walk.

I walked for 2.6 kilometers. Unfortunately I did so in my sandals. Luckily my feet don’t hurt today, but they sure weren’t happy last night.

I think I’ll make walking my default craft alternative… maybe that will be enough to draw back the crafting muse!

Cooking Day!

Today is a day for cooking! I’m in a cooking mood indeed.

For this cooking day I’ll be making Watermelon Cucumber Feta salad. Recently I visited my mum, and from her garden she gave me a few handfuls of grape tomatoes (though some were pretty massive “grapes”!), some fresh herbs, and a cucumber. We bought a watermelon yesterday as they’re on for a good price. And I’ve started to broaden my culinary horizons per se, and am starting to eat cheese that’s not one of three types (cheddar, brie, and St Albert delicious super cheddar/curds), so I’m feeling like experimenting with feta.

All of these things simply point to having to make this watermelon salad.Plus I think I had seen the recipe sometime last week and it’s been haunting me ever since! I will be using the recipe below which I’ve made up myself just now, after reading a few others online. I will come back and edit it once I’ve figured out the exact proportions. And add pictures, no more cooking without picture taking!

Meagan’s Watermelon Cucumber Feta salad
Serves: Unknown at this time, probably 4 large bowls
Prep Time: 10 mins
Critical Note: Salad must be made immediately before eating. It (most likely) disintegrates quickly and becomes a soup.

5-6 cups watermelon, cubed
1 cucumber, peeled and cubed
2-3oz of feta cheese, cubed pretty small, 1cm cubes
1/2 small red onion, diced into approx. fingernail size (not thumbnail sized)
the juice of one lime
few tablespoons of olive oil, most virgin-est is best but use what you have
fresh herbs (basil, mint)
freshly ground pepper

  1. In a small bowl, combine the red onion and lime juice. Let sit.
Note: For maximum marination, this should be done prior to preparing the watermelon.
  2. In the serving bowl, add the watermelon, cucumber, and red onion/lime. Mix very gently, possibly with your hands. Rotate the bowl to mix the juices.
  3. Cut up fresh herbs into very small slices. Add them to the salad, then add the feta on top and some fresh ground pepper, and give another quick gentle mix.
  4. Serve immediately.

In addition to this recipe, I’ve been wanting to make muffins for the past few months. Yes, months, as we don’t have a muffin pan! So I think I’ll purchase a cheap muffin pan and some liners, and I’ll start on a quest to find a delicious muffin recipe!
