So here we are again, January of a new year. Most of you know that I’m not a fan of new year resolutions – not only are they prone to failure, but more importantly there’s no reason to wait and change your life or habits when you can start today.
Reflecting on this past year, I would consider it a success. Most importantly, I am out of school and having my first taste of real life. Good and bad tastes of course, but I’ll take both. I’ve been able to focus on things that are important to myself, such as being creative and trying new things. I have become a more active person which is something I’m really looking forward to continuing this year. Basically my life is becoming solid and reliable, which is a good place to be right now.
Here are some of my goals for these next 365 days.
More writing. Thanks to my new teeny device of awesomeness that is the iPod touch, this goal will be easy to accomplish. I can now jot down ideas if not whole posts such as this very one wherever I am. While it would be nice to be able to format my posts and add pictures etc, such restrictions also mean I have to focus on making my words count more. We’ll see how it goes.
Continue my hobbies and improve my skills. This one will be harder to accomplish – one thing I learned last year was that it is really hard to keep up with many hobbies at once, and there are many hobbies I want to pursue: music, sewing, programming, photography, studying Japanese, all of which require time and dedication. But we’ll try out a few techniques to see how much time I can capture and redirect to hobbies.
Ramping up the healthy living. Hah, add one more hobby to that list then -and fitness sure takes up a lot of time! I’d be interested in getting into rock climbing or a martial art of some type, possibly judo lessons to capitalize on my slightly short height. Tom’s been wanting to go on more walks, so combined with that step counting video game this goal should be easier to accomplish. And while we’ve gotten healthy eating down pat, there are always ways to improve – whole wheating bread recipies for one.
And for fun when we reflect again next year, here are some tangible milestone goals based on the abstracts above:
– Kettlebells: start using the 16lb bell, if done before June the goal changes to using the 16lb bell for an entire class.
– Make a weekly walk part of my lifestyle.
– Program and release an ipod touch application, or develop an iPod touch-targetted website.
– Work on an instrument, guitar or drums likely. Bonus points: mix up a music track composed by myself.
– Sew up interesting and cool things. Bonus points: sell something I make.
– Get some new web design clients. Finally
