Rural Ramble 2009

rural

I am so glad I stumbled on this event!

It’s the Ottawa Valley Rural Ramble, a celebration of rural living in the Renfrew County. Ten bucks gets you your bracelet which is admission to any of the 20+ sites.

Some of the places that interest me include:

  • Ballintotas Alpacas in Braeside
  • Waddles’n’Wags Hobby Farm in Eganville
  • Tickle Island Farm, also in Eganville
  • Horseback riding, dairy farms, beef farms, organic farms… I love it all!

Orange Scarf

Here is a scarf I made from the lace shown in my last update. I think I’ll add some tassels to the ends!

My new old click reel swift

A new antique has made my apartment its home. This is a click reel, it measures out lengths of wool, and does a super fast job at removing wool from my spinning wheel’s bobbin in a precise and measured way! It used to belong to an avid spinner who is too old to use it now, so she was happy it was going to still be used versus sit around and look pretty. I think it makes a nice set with my spinning wheel.

Pictured on it is yarn I spun up yesterday.  This is just under 250 yards of laceweight single ply yarn, 40 grams, a combo of the white/creamy fleece and white/grey fleece. Not sure what color I want to dye it in, but it’s not going to be orange, that’s for sure!
