Studio work and Ottawa Photography Friends!

I’ve been hard at work in my photography studio!

I need a remote control! Also a tripod that doesn’t suck. My test model is a bit too short 🙂

That said, I’m pretty happy with the way this shot turned out, given the amazing MacGyvering of my limited resources.

I have a lot to learn about my new camera, the Nikon D5000, but I already know I made a fantastic choice!

I’m using this time to really get in touch with what Lightroom has to offer in terms of post-production and file management. I grew up on pre-CS Photoshop, so it’s taken me some time to wrap my head around the idea of using Lightroom’s non-editing fixes instead of laboriously editing with layers. Overall I’m enjoying the program for one key reason: it reduces the time I spend editing, which increases the time I spend shooting and learning. More time making art, less time nit-picking it. A win-win.

Time to get back out shooting!

Speaking of which, if you’re a photographer in the Ottawa area and want to engage in more active local photography, a few friends and I are establishing a photography group with the goal of encouraging one another to shoot more and explore our talents. Especially if you’re a novice, you’ll always learn one amazing thing that will revolutionize your approach to photography! If this interests you, leave a comment below!
